The 3 Best Books I Read Last Year

At this time last year I set a goal to read 50 books in 2011. I didn’t meet my goal, which I’m okay with, but I did still read a lot of books. Some were not worth the paper they’re printed on, some had a few tasty morsels but not enough to deserve a book-length treatment, many were good, a few were great. My 3 favorites are all books I think any Christian would benefit from reading, so maybe you’ll want to put one or two in your Amazon basket.

The One Podcast You Should Be Listening To

Everyone and their grandma has a podcast. It seems these days like every evangelical church has their sermons up on iTunes, including the Rooted. I don’t listen to any preachers regularly, mostly because I tend to end up mimicking them more than I’d like to in my own preaching. But I do try to listen as often as I can to one podcast: The White Horse Inn.

A New Web Strategy for the Rooted

Everything is about God. Paul wrote in Romans 11:36 that “From him and through him and to him are all things.” Part of our church’s vision, then (which you can hear more about here), is to train our people to think biblically and theologically about every part of life and how it relates to God and his gospel.

So far in the life of our church, our opportunities to provide training like this have been somewhat limited. We teach expositionally through the Scriptures on Sunday mornings, provide structured theological training through Porterbrook, and have offered classes here and there. Our desire for 2012 is to create more channels to get good content to you, all so that you may continue to think well about life with Jesus at the center. Let me mention just one of these that starts soon.
